Explanation: What is a List Cleanup Campaign?

If your email campaigns or newsletters aren't getting the right amount of attention, it's time to clean up your email list! Cleaning up your email list can help solve your email campaign engagement or deliverability issues and improve your conversion rates. So you can remove contacts that are irrelevant or uninterested.

The list cleanup option in JUNE unsubscribes all recipients unless they click on the β€œSubscribe” link you inserted.

Example Of A List Cleanup Campaign

Necessary Steps In Advance

You can create a list cleanup campaign at any time. However, in order to send it, the following steps must be completed in advance:

  • Create a recipient list

  • If necessary, set up the desired segmentation: All recipients should be selected who have not been active for a longer period of time and therefore should receive the list cleanup campaign

  • Generate a subscribe link (see next step)

  • Create/select an email template

Generate Subscribe Link

The Subscribe link will be added to your list cleanup campaign so that users have the option to continue subscribing to your newsletter. You should definitely create this link and include it in your campaign!

If you haven't generated a subscribe link yet, follow the instructions. Otherwise, use your existing subscribe link. Both options are shown in the table below.

  1. Navigate to Automations in the left sidebar

  2. Select your Sign-up Email List

  3. Click Actions in the top menu bar

  4. Check if an "On link clicked" action is already set up and follow one of the two further steps:

An "On link clicked" action is already set up:

An "On link clicked" action must be set up:

Example:

  1. Click onto the Trigger.

  2. Copy the Link URL, this will be your Subscribe Link.

  1. Click onto Create Action on the right top.

  2. Select the Trigger On link clicked.

  3. Click onto Save within the modal.

  4. Click on Add within the Services section and choose Subscribe.

  5. Click onto the Trigger, to open the pop-up again, which now offers various settings.

  6. Paste your link under Link Redirect URL. This confirmation page will be shown, whenever a user is subscribing to your newsletter. If you don't have an own confirmation page, a JUNE automated page will be shown.

  7. Now, to close the pop-up, click on the Save button. You have to open it again, to see the Link URL -> This will be your Subscribe Link.

  8. Copy the Link URL, to later use it within a button of your list cleanup campaign.

Create & Send List Cleanup Campaign

Set Up

Once you have completed the steps above, you can now create a campaign and send it. Follow these steps:

  1. Navigate to Campaigns in the left sidebar.

  2. Click Create in the top right corner and select Email Campaign.

Setup - Step 1/3

  1. Set Campaign Name (internal name).

  2. Select Recipient List (to whom should the campaign be sent?).

  3. Select the Segment you created especially for the list cleanup campaign. A parameter for this can be, for example, a long period of inactivity.

πŸ’‘ The number of recipients will be displayed as a control value.

  4. Add Tags (so you can assign the campaign to filter your campaign overview by tags at a later time).

  5. If desired, activate Pre-actions.

πŸ’‘ When you activate this switch, an intermediate step opens where you can define Pre Actions to automatically update the dynamic content of the campaign or the data of your recipient list before sending.

  6. Turn on List Cleanup to ensure that all users who receive this campaign are unsubscribed. Users will then have the option to click on the Subscribe Link in the email itself to be re-subscribed (see step 2, point 5).

Content - Step 2/3

  1. Set Subject. (This is the email subject that your recipients will see)
πŸ’‘ The pre-header of an email is set in the template.

  2. Fill in Sender Information. (Under what name and email address do you want to send?).

  3. Fill in the Reply Information. (To which name and email address do you want your recipients to be able to reply? You can also choose a completely custom email address that is not registered under your domain).

  4. Select a Template or Draft; or insert your HTML to define the content of the email – you can still edit the template/draft, of course.

πŸ’‘ You can edit the email using the Edit button. Alternatively, you can click on Emails in the left sidebar and see all the emails that you can edit by clicking on them.

  5. Be sure to include the Subscribe Link in a button, as shown in the example, so that your users have the option to remain subscribers to your newsletter.

Send - Step 3/3

In the last step you will get a preview & summary, and you can control the tracking and shipping:

Tracking

  1. Track Opens. (Do you want to track who opened the email?).

  2. Tracking Clicks. (Do you want to track who clicked on a link in the email?)

  3. Track Website Activity. (If your website was linked to in the email, you can continue to track your users' activity even after the website link is opened, as long as there is a tracking pixel on the website to better analyze their behavior).

Sending

  1. Set Minimum sending duration. (Over what period of time should the campaign be sent? This setting helps to save the server, for example, if a large sale is sent and there is a risk that the online store will be overloaded by opening at the same time).

  2. Send Test – a modal opens where you can select individual recipients from the currently stored list to whom a test mail should be sent.

  3. Send Scheduled – a calendar will open, select a time of sending.

  4. Send Now – send immediately.

The campaign will be sent at the desired time after the sending settings are completed. As long as the sending is not completed, Scheduled or Sending will be displayed in the campaign overview.

Delete Campaign

  1. Navigate to Campaigns in the left sidebar.

  2. Click on the three dots in the column of the campaign you want to delete.

  3. Now select Delete.

  4. Confirm that you really want to delete the selected campaign.

Duplicate/Clone Campaign

  1. Navigate to Campaigns in the left sidebar.

  2. Click on the three dots in the column of the campaign you want to clone.

  3. Now select Clone.

  4. Choose a Title for the cloned campaign.

  5. Click Submit to complete the cloning process.
