In Germany and many other countries, subscribers must be able to unsubscribe at any time. The most common solution is the unsubscribe button. So if subscribers change their mind and want to unsubscribe from your newsletter, they should be able to do so with one click.

We show you here how you can easily integrate this button into your JUNE newsletter.

Legal Information

  • The unsubscribe button is usually installed by marketers in the footer of the newsletter. The text displayed must be clear, but there are no exact legal requirements regarding the exact wording.

  • Unsubscribing must not be more complicated than subscribing.

  • Unsubscribing must be possible at any time. It would be possible for the user to send an email to your customer support and unsubscribe that way. However, since this variant does not take into account weekends, nights, etc., the unsubscribe link in the newsletter is the simplest and safest solution for both senders and subscribers to prevent warnings and legal disputes.

💡 The clearly visible unsubscribe link is not only legally binding, but also has clear advantages for you as a sender:

  • You keep your email list clean.

  • You increase your conversion rate by ensuring that only real prospects receive your newsletters.

  • Your domain stays away from spam filters. If subscribers do not find your unsubscribe link directly, there is a risk that they will classify the email as spam.

Adding List-Unsubscribe

Follow these steps to add a single opt-out unsubscribe to your newsletter:

  1. Navigate to your desired Newsletter Template.

  2. If not already done, create a footer section with a text field for the List Unsubscribe.

  3. Use the Insert/Edit Link function of the Richtext Editor as shown in the video above.

  4. In the modal, check the Unsubscribe through this link checkbox.

  5. You also need to insert a URL: It's best to create a simple subpage on your website where you show an unsubscribe confirmation so that subscribers can visually see that their unsubscribe was successful (example link: https://juneapp.com/unsubscribe-success/).

  6. When a subscriber clicks on “Unsubscribe”, they will be automatically removed from the list used to send the newsletter.

💡 To avoid having to repeat these steps every time you create a new newsletter, you should save the final footer with the list unsubscribe link as a favorite. Here is a video on the subject. You can find more information in this article: Create Global Favorites
